Connected and Disconnected?

It is an undeniable fact that while you are being connected to people through social networking sites, you are also being disconnected to them at the same time. The social networking site, Facebook, is a platform for people to interact with one another. With Facebook, it now becomes possible to connect to people you have lost contact with, to plan gatherings online, and to be more updated with friends. This introduces a new digital realm in which communication can be in the form of uploading of photos, updating of status etc.

On the other hand, this new form of communication has shifted our culture from traditional forms of communication to digital forms. In the case of Facebook, it enables communication between people without having to physically meet up with one another or even talk to one another. Yet, this is where the disconnection occurs. This is because, once people are used to communicating and interacting only via Facebook, they will not make an extra effort to meet up with that person or even phone call them. Facebook facilitates communication constituting to less face-to-face interaction because if you could just communicate online, why meet up?
